Blason De Bourgogne Macon-Villages 2008

November 17 2009
By chance the wine that replaced the Blason De Bourgogne Hautes-Cotes De Beaune 2008 in my previous tasting note (that was now making its way from our sink into into the sea for the surfers to ride) was also a 'Blason' but this time white and only £5.49 (from Sainsbury's again, my friend must have got 'blinded by Blason' in the aisle).

A much better drink at a very reasonable price point. Soft and quaffable. This time no complaints.

So my interest in Blason reawakened I discover that their model is based around combining 5 wine co-operatives, creating a super co-op that now claims to account for

"one in every 8 bottles of Burgundy sold in the UK"

Wine co-operatives are a bit like a colony of termites all working together and helping each other out, creating an impressive empire in a vastly competitive landscape. Small growers get a voice and can sustain a living within the co-op by always having a buyer for their harvest for example.

So the 'Blason' brand, despite having a distinctly dodgy label has somewhat redeemed itself.
