Philippe Michel Cremant Du Jura 2008
December 12 2011
What a gorgeous looking bottle. Elegant in the extreme, the lines flow down from the long narrow neck like a warm drop of caramel.
Jura is an unusual wine region that I am not very familiar with. It is sandwiched between Burgundy and Switzerland, famous for wines like 'vin jaune'.
This delightful wine is a breath of fresh air in the overcrowded Cava/Prosecco market. I brought the bottle to a friend’s house, and it made much more of an impact than perhaps vintage Champagne would have done as it immediately became a talking point.
It is 100% Chardonnay and made in the 'traditional method', so the bubbles are home grown in the bottle. It was dry and refreshing, a perfect aperitif.
Aldi have really hit the mark with this one and
at only £6.99. A must have for Christmas.
