Naked Wines always seems to be coming up with new ideas. Their latest one caught my eye.
Basically they are inviting 'home-grown' experienced winemakers to work directly with them. The winemaker just has to make the wine, all costs, distribution, customer base etc are taken care of. Everyone makes a profit, no middle men, everyone happy.
From their
microsite for the project -
"
-We fund the project for the winemaker, deliver the volume upfront, and guarantee a salary and a profit
-The winemaker gets to use the best grapes available to them, and focus purely on making wine, rather than selling
-And the end customer gets a bloody good wine, at a bloody good price!"
I think I still have some lemonade bottles full of something like wine that I made over 20 years ago. Back then, all I remember is that it was rocket fuel and when served at a dinner party the guests barely walked out. Don't worry,
Chateau Charlie will not be on your shelves anytime soon. I suppose I could run my car on it.
Naked Wines are deliberately avoiding complications and want to deal with ordinary Joe Bloggs, not layers of established bureaucracy. I quote -
"
.. we're not looking to work with producers already in the UK, we're not looking to talk to agents, and we're not looking to talk to big wineries!"
I await with interest to see the results of this project on their virtual shelves
Have your say
