Fine Wine Index

April 16 2009
The Liv-ex 100 Fine Wine Index is a great way to keep an eye on fine wine prices. If you are a buyer then you will be pleased to know that the index declined 1.2% in March, meaning that there should be better value purchases to be had at wine auctions.
Prices are coming back down to more 'normal levels' after a high point last spring. This is probably due to good supply and bad global economic conditions.
Wine auctions are not the sole retreat of the wealthy as bottles can range from a few quid upwards into the stratosphere. I like the idea of the presale tastings where you may get to try some wines previously out of reach. I found this good article on wine auctions as I have never been, and it is certainly worth a read if you are considering venturing to one.
My experience of wine auctions remains online.
