Something from Nothing
Its been a while since my last entry. I have been carefully guiding myself through the festive period and New Year mayhem, finally resolving against resolutions.
I was lucky enough to be at a wedding at One Whitehall Place in London for New Year's Eve. It is located opposite the London Eye, and so perfectly placed for watching the sky explode into life. The noise was quite considerable, so much so that I am sure the recently newsworthy 'headbanging earthquake detecting snakes in China' were acting like they were listening to a rendition of Motorhead's 'Ace of Spades'. I could sympathise with them as the mixtures of the grape and the grain fell heavily upon my head the next morning. I do not think that the dire coupled effect of drinking wine followed by beer is scientifically understood, or indeed proven, but I needed a reassuring reason for my malaise.
One of my Christmas presents was an origami book. A piece of A4, and a frustrated hour later I could have given you something that resembled a rabbit. But the more rabbits I produce the easier it becomes, and finally I discovered the amazing cathartic effect that is paper folding. I now have a house full of rabbits that all look so cute that I cannot bare to throw them away. Be warned, once you start it is very addictive. The paper recycle tray at work has now become a source of wild excitement and imagination. All those unborn creatures waiting for their chance to dwell in and around my desk. Back at home I have found Amaretti wrappers most conducive to folding, especially while eating the contents over a sweet wine. Endless opportunities.
Looking back at 2006, I feel that I have gained an insight into wine, starting off a relative novice. I will not be adding to my map in 2007, but leave it as a record of my clumsy journey through the world of wine in 2006. I will continue my blog.
